Insurance & Fees
I know that many clients want to use in-network insurance providers to lower the costs of their therapy. I can understand that from a client perspective. Paying just a co-pay for each session seems very appealing on the surface.
There are multiple reasons why I chose to be an out-of-network provider for most plans. Central to that decision is my concern for you. Your privacy and our ability to make independent decisions about your treatment are critical. Please inquire as to which plans I currently accept.
If I am an in-network provider, I technically work for the insurance company. It is common that they ask for your private therapy notes on a frequent basis so they can approve or deny more sessions. I consider your privacy to be sacred and central to the therapeutic process. If I am forced to tell your insurance company intimate details about you, your therapy is no longer private. The insurance company could also decide that you no longer qualify as needing therapy and deny payment for further sessions, ending our work in an abrupt fashion.
I strongly believe that any and all treatment decisions should be made by the people who know your treatment most intimately. Psychoanalytic psychotherapy is designed to be personalized and deep, and this can often take time and patience—two things that insurance companies are not known for appreciating!
With all this said, I am happy to provide an itemized receipt at the end of each month so you can submit it to your insurance company for possible out-of-network reimbursement. In this way, we are able to safeguard your personal privacy and retain control of your treatment.
Many of my clients get 50-80% of their treatment costs covered depending on your insurance company. Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have about insurance.
Please contact me for my current fee schedule. I accept cash, personal checks and/or credit cards as payment.
I may consider fee adjustments for those without insurance or those coming to therapy more than once per week.
